Abstract
Dissolution of Parliament is one of the key elements of the parliamentary form of government, having played a capital role in its historical conformation. Nowadays, it is previewed in most part of parliamentary constitutions as a crucial element in the balance between legislative and executive powers.
There are three main subjects in the study. First, the general theory on dissolution and a reference of comparative law. Second, the dissolution as it is established in the Spanish constitution of 1978. And third, the analysis of the twelve parliament dissolutions that have taken place in Spain since 1978.
